Non è sempre semplice definire i connotati dell’Arte Erotica, dal momento in cui la percezione di ciò che è più o meno erotico può mutare a seconda delle proprie emozioni e del proprio essere.
Non tutti gli artisti nei secoli scorsi hanno firmato le loro opere di genere erotico, anzi quasi nessuno! Si temeva l’opinione pubblica avversa alle immagini contro il pudore, addirittura le leggi in alcuni stati prevedevano persino il carcere per gli artisti considerati “debosciati” e torture di ogni genere. Bisognava fare i conti con la Chiesa e le Istituzioni da un lato, ma pian piano queste opere cominciarono a suscitare tanto scalpore e tanta richiesta da parte del pubblico. Dai primi anni Venti del novecento in poi, le illustrazioni a tema erotico aumentarono e iniziarono a apparire sui libri, novelle e giornali. Scopriamo ora insieme 9 opere d’arte peccaminose

L’ ORIGINE DU MONDE

L’origine du monde (L’origine del mondo) è un dipinto di Gustave Courbet e rappresenta i genitali femminili con uno stile pittorico molto realista. La natura verace della sua riproduzione anatomica lascia molto spazio alla fantasia! Probabilmente la modella raffigurata non sta facendo nulla di erotico: dorme o si riposa vestita solo di una sottoveste, evidentemente in un giorno afoso, ma il quadro ha ancora oggi il potere di scioccare. Per esempio, il 23 febbraio 2009, alcune copie di un libro, raffigurante L’Origine in copertina, sono state sequestrate dalla polizia a Braga, in Portogallo, che le contestava come “pubblica pornografia”.
VENERE DI URBINO

La donna ha sempre rappresentato in pittura tutto ciò che veniva considerato bello e sublime, come l’amore, la bellezza, la bontà, la maternità, ma anche di peccaminoso come la sensualità, passione, tradimento. La dea di Tiziano fissa in modo deciso l’osservatore, noncurante della sua nudità, con una posa ambigua, a metà strada tra il pudore e l’invito. Indirizza lo sguardo della spettatore proprio verso l’inguine, per risalire poi lungo il ventre e il petto, fino allo sguardo. Il tutto accentuato dai toni caldi e scuri dello sfondo che mettono più in risalto il calore del corpo femminile.
IL SONNO

Il dipinto mostra due donne nude che giacciono addormentate su un grande letto matrimoniale sfatto, strettamente allacciate in un abbraccio erotico, come solitamente tutte le coppie fanno per riposarsi dopo il rapporto sessuale. L’ autore cura il dettaglio e l’uso del colore per accentuare la foga dell’ atto avvenuto poco prima.
LE DAMOISELLES DES AVIGNON

Il quadro mostra cinque prostitute in un bordello di calle Avignon, a Barcellona. Picasso creò oltre un centinaio di studi preparatori e schizzi in preparazione a questo lavoro, uno dei più importanti nello sviluppo iniziale del Cubismo. Quando fu esposto per la prima volta nel 1916, il quadro fu tacciato di immoralità, rappresenta un esempio di arte proto-erotica cubista

L’intensità dello sguardo e l’uso sapiente dei pochi colori fa diventare il risultato un simbolo. Simbolo universale della sensualità femminile, moderna – in questo caso – ma, come mai, fuori del tempo e dello spazio, carne e sangue, anima e spirito insieme della donna, quasi scultura, nonostante la carnalità: anche se mostrato in modo provocatorio – i peli del pube che tanti grattacapi crearono all’artista – esibisce una sensualità contenuta, malinconica, quasi astratta, un secondo tempio della bellezza, in cui l’idea di bellezza è figlia della poesia e non il contrario.
FONTANA DEL NETTUNO
La fontana del Nettuno è situata a Bologna in piazza del Nettuno ed è un opera dello scultore Giambologna. All’epoca le donne di Bologna alla vista del nudo monumento del Nettuno si turbavano, vi furono varie proposte per la moralità pubblica, tra le quali sovrapporre delle vesti in bronzo alla statua e alle sirene o ninfe di contorno che poste ai quattro angoli spruzzano acqua dalle mammelle. Fortunatamente della proposta non se ne fece nulla.

It is not always easy to define Erotic Art’s characteristics, since the perception of what is or is not erotic may change according to one’s emotions or being.
Not every artist signed this kind of works of art in the last centuries. They were afraid of public opinion that was opposed to images against decency, and in some countries artists who were considered “debauched” where punished with prison and tortures of all kind. They had to deal with Church and Institutions, but little by little their artworks started to arouse interest and requests from public. Since the ‘20, erotic illustrations increased and begin to appear on books, newspaper and short stories. Let’s discover now 9 sinful works of art.
L’ORIGINE DU MONDE

The Origin of the World is a painting by Gustave Courbet and represents female genitals with a very realistic style of painting. The true nature of his anatomical reproduction leaves much to the imagination! Probably the model pictured is not doing anything erotic, sleeping or resting dressed only in a slip, apparently in a muggy day, but the picture still has the power to shock. For example, on Feb. 23rd, 2009, police in Braga (Portugal), seized copies of a book depicting “The Origin” on the cover and accused it as “public pornography”.

Woman has always represented in painting everything that was considered beautiful and sublime as love, beauty, maternity, but also sinful as sensuality, passion and infidelity. The goodness by Tiziano stares at the observer, careless of her nudity, with an ambiguous pose, halfway between decency and invitation. She directs the sight of the spectator in the direction of her groin, then it goes up again along the womb and the breast, up to her eyes. This is all highlighted by the warm and deep tone of colors, which highlight the warmth of the feminine body.

This painting represents two naked women laying asleep on a big double bed strictly bound in an erotic embrace, as usually every couple does to rest after a sexual relation. It is carefully detailed and the use of colors accentuates the passion of the act occurred shortly before.
LES DEMOISELLES D’AVIGNON

The intensity of the look and the wise use of a few colors make the result a symbol. This is an universal symbol of female sensuality, modern –in this case- but outside time and space, flesh and blood, soul and spirit of woman, almost sculpture, despite of carnality: even if it is shown in a provocative way it performs a controlled sensuality, almost abstract, a second temple of beauty, in which the idea is the daughter of poetry, and not the opposite.
FOUNTAIN OF NEPTUNE
The Fountain of Neptune by the sculptor Giambologna is placed in Bologna. At that time, women in Bologna were disturbed at the sight of the naked Neptune, and there were several proposal for public morality, such as superimposing bronze clothes on the statue and on sirens or nymphs, who surround it at the four corners spraying water from the breast. Fortunately the proposal didn’t succeeded.
