Il 6 Novembre 2014 ha esordito nel Rione di Monti di Roma la “Sacripante art Gallery “, con la sua prima mostra a cura di Rossana Calbi e Giulia Piccioni ,esponendo le opere di Lucamaleonte e David Diavù Vecchiato.
In questa galleria viene data visibilità alla , “Lowbrow art ” , meglio conosciuta come surrealismo pop, genere artistico maggiormente apprezzato negli Stati Uniti . La Lowbrow art nasce intorno agli anni ’70 negli ambienti dei fumetti underground , della musica punk e di altre sottoculture californiane. Il nome “Lowbrow ” venne ideato da Robert Williams , con l’intenzione di marcare la contrapposizione di questa espressione artistica , con l’ “highbrow” , ovvero con l’alta cultura. I suoi artisti appartengono ad ambienti diversi rispetto a quelli dell’artista comune , provenendo per la maggior parte dal mondo dei fumetti e della moda , al contrario di quello prettamente accademico.
La Lowbrow art si consolida nel 1994 , con l’ uscita della rivista “Juxtapoz ” diretta appunto da Robert Williams , presentandosi come un ‘arte caratterizzata da soggetti figurativi , caricaturali , accesi da molti colori e arricchite di decorazioni che denotano la sua forza. Forza e particolarità che non hanno però ancora trovato un riscontro importante in Italia , dove rimane conosciuta ed apprezzata da un pubblico di nicchia.
Per questo si dovrebbe riconoscere come coraggiosa , l’ esposizione della Sacripante Gallery , che come sottolineato dal suo stesso nome irrompe con forza e determinazione nell’ambiente culturale romano. Questa galleria presentandosi con un ambiente barocco misto al cemento grezzo si propone di rappresentare idee che nascono e dopo sei mesi muoiono , attraverso l’esposizione di due mostre annuali. Questa prima mostra , denominata , ” The end is the beginning” , presenta dieci opere per ogni artista , serigrafie e t-shirt , ispirata all’archetipo di inizio e fine. : ” E piovve per quaranta giorni e quaranta notti . le acque crebbero e sollevarono l’arca che si alzò in alto sopra la terra . Le acque si innalzarono sempre di più sulla Terra e coprirono tutti i monti più alti che sono sotto il cielo ” , terminando poi nell’ultima stanza dove viene raccontata attraverso un ‘idea realizzata a più mani , l’acquisizione di nuova vita attraverso la distruzione stessa. Nella ” Sacripante Gallery “ , viene perciò dato spazio alla rinascita , ispirata dal racconto eroico dell’arca di Noè , dove si ricorda quanto ogni fine , rimanga pur sempre l’inizio di qualcosa di nuovo , attraverso la rappresentazione della tragedia su tavole di legno spezzate , che ricompongono l’idea dell’arca stessa , tutto ciò che viene raffigurato tende alla distruzione , ma allo stesso tempo ad una nuova forma. Idea innovativa e concisa , su cui sarebbe utile soffermarsi , in occasione della fine di un anno e l’inizio di uno nuovo , riflettendo su quanto in realtà sia possibile comunque ricavare da una conclusione , da una distruzione , che rimane pur sempre l’inizio di qualcosa di diverso , di una vita nuova , rigenerata , da cui si può ricavare u nuovo coraggio per ripartire.
Gli artisti della ” Sacripante Gallery “, perciò capaci di saper cogliere l ‘infinita miseria umana e il caos dei tempi odierni in cui siamo costantemente immersi , ci ricordano la profondità di questo concetto , ci indicano una via per la salvezza , ovvero l’arte , creando questo luogo nuovo perfettamente chiaro nelle idee e negi obiettivi , per merito delle tue curatrici che hanno reso possibile l’incontro fra la vita e la morte , che sembrano quasi mescolarsi , rivelandosi entrambe un punto di partenza , attraverso l’uso alternato di colori per le prime opere ed il bianco e il nero per l’ultima , andando proprio a caricare l’attenzione sull’acquisizione di nuova vita proprio mentre la si sta perdendo , sull’idea di rigenerazione compiuta attraverso l’arte , che con la sua illimitata bellezza e travolgente emozione ci potrà forse salvare.

It was November 6th when the ” Sacripante Art Gallery ” opened its doors in Rione Monti with its first exhibition by Rossana Calbi and Giulia Piccioni , that showed the works of Lucamaleonte and David Diavù Vecchiato.
La Lowbrow art or pop surrealism is the kind of art you are exposed to when you walk across the gallery. This tendency originated in Los Angeles . USA , in the 70s , developing through underground comics , punk music and californian subcultures.
Robert Williams created the name ” Lowbrow ” in order to highlight the distance between this artistic expression and the ” Highbrow” ( the so called “high culture ” , whose artists belong to academic world.)
Lowbrow art consolidates in 1994 with the magazine Juxtapoz directed by Robert Williams , presenting itself as an art whose characteristic is to represent figurative subjects , caricatures , inflamed by strong colors and decoration showing its force.. Lowbrow art has not still found an important reply in Italy where only a niche of people acknowledges its importance and appreciates its forms.
That is the reason why we should recognize the bravery behind the exhibition in Sacripante Gallery that bursts into the cultural roman environment. This gallery , a combination of baroque style and raw cement aims to give visibility to those brand new ideas -that are bound to die within six months-with two year-long exhibition. The first exhibit is called “The end is the beginning ” and its shows ten works of each artist: t-shirts and silk – screen print are inspired by the archetype of beginning and end : ” For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth , and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. They rose greatly on the earth , and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered” (Genesis 7, 17 , 7 , 19). The show ends in the last room where it is represented how new life can be acquired through distruction.
In ” Sacripante Gallery ” fundamental is the process of rebirth ispired by the eroic narration of Noah’s Ark : there , the message is that every ending sets the beginning of something new. All that is represented -according to the tragedy’s depiction on the broken wooden boards – tends to destruction and meanwhile to something different , a new life , regenerated , where we can find the bravery to start over.
The artists of ” Sacripante Gallery ” are able to perceive the infinite human misery and the modernity chaos we are irremediably subdued , and they remind us the depth of his concept , revealing us the path that would lead us to salvation. Art leads people to salvation. the artists create an ideal place that is the result of the collision of death and life , two forces that apparently tangle up , revealing themselves as a starting point. The amazing use of the color -white for the first works and black for the very last one- draws the attention on the process of rebeirth after death an idea of regeneration ispired by art. Will the boundless beauty of art save us one day?
