Anna Maria Scocozza è un’artista completa e poliedrica, che spazia tra diversi generi artistici per adattarli all’ispirazione del momento. Noi di The WalkMan ci siamo addentrati nel suo mondo di acquarelli e libri d’artista, per farvela conoscere.
Anna Maria, come nasce la tua passione per l’arte e che tipo di formazione hai avuto?
Fin da bambina l’Arte era la mia amica immaginaria, che curava e accompagnava la mia crescita e mi spingeva a conoscere me stessa e la realtà che abitavo. Ho iniziato approfondendo tutti gli studi artistici necessari alla mia formazione, imparando perfettamente a destreggiarmi tra le diverse tecniche artistiche e decorative, e questo mi ha permesso sempre di poter scegliere liberamente, in conformità a quello che volevo comunicare in quel momento.
Abbiamo visto che spazi tra diverse tecniche pittoriche e artistiche, ma ce n’è una che prediligi e che senti che ti rappresenti al meglio? Perché?
L’acquarello è per me una pratica spirituale che mi collega con l’”Ovunque” attraverso l’arcobaleno dei colori suoi messaggeri. Ognuno di esso ha, infatti, una sua frequenza e un’energia che secondo me ispira e salva. E’ lo strumento ideale per rappresentare la sensibilità dell’essere fanciullo in evoluzione.
Ultimamente ti sei dedicata ai libri d’artista. Vuoi spiegarci cosa sono e perché la tua scelta è ricaduta su questo mezzo espressivo?
L’urgenza è nata semplicemente perché ne avevo talmente tanti che li avrei dovuti buttar via! Il libro d’artista per me è una testimonianza preziosa, veicolo di conoscenza e opera d’arte in forma di libro. Da quei fragili resti emerge il materiale da scolpire e trasmutare in personaggi, che dialogano in silenzio con chi li guarda nel loro percorso verso un luogo magico e incantato, fatto di storie misteriose che presagiscono un imminente risveglio del protagonista, svelandone il segreto del quale solo l’artista e lo spettatore sono a conoscenza.
C’è qualche opera o serie a cui sei particolarmente legata? Per quale motivo?
Da grande voglio essere piccola è il ciclo pittorico ad acquarello a cui sono particolarmente legata: l’artista rimane sempre interiormente un fanciullo, il suo stupore e il suo giocare con la realtà, la sua innocenza, gli permettono di non invecchiare e trascinare l’osservatore in magici mondi nascosti per poi svelarglieli.
Come definiresti il tuo essere artista e il tuo tipo di arte?
La mia arte è come una pratica spirituale, una ricerca alchemica in cui trasformo la materia in puro spirito in continua evoluzione, che diventa potere vivente. L’Artista è in conclusione un viaggiatore lirico che insegue sempre il richiamo della propria anima, che insegna a osservare attraverso una prospettiva a volo d’uccello, consentendo di prendere la dovuta distanza dal quotidiano, per affrontare tutte le avversità della vita e trasformare le difficoltà in simboli di guarigione, ovvero trasmutare quel piombo in oro. Questo è il cuore del mio lavoro.
Noi di The WalkMan cerchiamo il talento nei giovani artisti emergenti italiani. Cosa puoi consigliare a chi come te vuole intraprendere una carriera legata al mondo artistico?
Per prima cosa “l’Arte è un gioco ma non uno scherzo” quindi bisogna essere veramente sicuri che la nostra sia un’autentica passione. Il “Dono” che abbiamo ricevuto deve essere curato, amato e custodito, senza improvvisarsi “artistuncoli” o trovare facili scorciatoie, ma bisogna studiare sempre seriamente per riuscire a dire qualche cosa di diverso e di speciale che non è stato detto prima. L’altro requisito è credere veramente in ciò che si fa e in se stessi, altrimenti non si arriva a nulla di serio.

Anna Maria Scocozza is a whole and polyhedric artist, ranging among different artistic genres and adapting them to that very moment inspiration. At TheWalkman, we explored her watercolors and artist’s books world to make you know her.
Anna Maria, how was your passion for art born and what kind of education did you get?
When I was a child, Art was my imaginary friend, looking after me and pushing me to get to know that reality I lived in. I started deepening all the artistic studies I needed for my education, learning to perfection to cope with different artistic and decorative techniques. This has always allowed me to choose freely, in conformity with what I wanted to communicate at that moment.
We notice that you range among different painting and artistic techniques. Is there one you prefer and that you feel it represent you the best? Why?
To me, waterpainting is a spiritual practice connecting me with the “Everywhere” through the colors of the rainbow, which are its messengers. As a matter of fact, each of them has its own frequency and some kind of energy which I think is inspiring and saving. It is the ideal tool to represent the evolving child sensitivity.
Lately you concentrated on artist’s books. Do you want to explain us what they are and why did you choose this expressive tool?
The urgency raised simply because I had so many that I should have drop them! To me, the artist’s book is an important witness, vehicle of knowledge and book-shaped artwork. From those fragile remains, material to sculpt and transmute into characters emerges. These characters dialogue silently with those who watch them through their path towards a magic and enchanted place, made up of mysterious stories foretelling the protagonist’s imminent awakening. It therefore disclose that secret which only the artist and the spectator knew.
Is there any work or series which you are particularly bound to? Why?
As an adult I want to become a child is the waterpainting pictorial collection which I am particularly bound to. The artist interiorly remains a child forever. His astonishment and his playing with reality, his innocence make him never grow old and draw the observer in magical hidden worlds to be then disclosed.
How could you define your being an artist and your kind of art?
My art is just like a spiritual practice, it is an alchemic search in which I turn matter into pure, constantly evolving spirit which then becomes living power. In conclusion, the Artist is a lyrical traveler always chasing its own soul recall. It teaches how to observe through a bird-flight perspective, thus permitting to take the proper distance from everyday life in order to face all the adversities of life and turn difficulties into symbols of healing, that is to transmute lead into gold.
At TheWalkMan, we look for talent among young emerging Italian artists. What could you suggest those like you who want to take an artistic career?
First of all, “Art is a game but not a joke” so you have to be really sure that yours is an authentic passion. The “Gift” we received needs to be looked after, loved and safeguarded. It doesn’t need to act as “lousy artists” or find easy shortcuts, but always it needs to study hard to manage to tell something different and special which has never been told before. The other requisite is to really believe in what you do and in yourself or you will never get to anything serious.
