Piattaforma dalle mille sfaccettature, tra vlog, challenge, e personaggi più o meno eccentrici, YouTube offre anche la possibilità a migliaia di artisti nel mondo di esprimere la propria arte nei generi più diversi. Ecco quindi alcuni dei lavori musicali che The Walkman Magazine ha selezionato per voi.
8-bit Music
Chi non ha mai posseduto un Game Boy, o giocato a Super Mario o a Tetris? L’ 8-bit Music racchiude pienamente tutta la nostalgia delle melodie di quegli anni, e la unisce a canzoni vere e proprie. Ci troviamo di fronte, infatti, per lo più a cover riproposte nello stile videogame anni ’90. Il genere, chiamato anche chiptune, raccoglie ormai così tanti artisti, che è possibile trovare riprodotta in 8-bit quasi qualsiasi canzone. Alcuni esempi presi da YouTube? Le hit degli ultimi anni.
From Major to Minor (e viceversa)
Cosa succederebbe se alcuni dei pezzi storici più tristi della musica moderna diventassero improvvisamente allegri, e viceversa? È quello che ha pensato l’utente YouTube Oleg Berg, che nel suo canale ha pubblicato una serie di classici pop modificandone la struttura. Solitamente, se una canzone viene composta in scala maggiore, ha una melodia allegra o positiva, triste o malinconica se in minore. Troviamo quindi canzoni composte in minore, come “Sweet Dreams“ degli Eurythmics, o la colonna sonora de Il Padrino, diventare delicate, allegre, e quasi irriconoscibili. D’altra parte, anche una canzone dolce e romantica come “Love Me Tender” di Elvis Presley (scritta in maggiore), può diventare triste e struggente se rimasterizzata in minore.
Floppy Music
E’ risaputo che con i mezzi di oggi è possibile comporre melodie da qualsiasi suono o rumore, trasformandole in note musicali. L’utente YouTube MrSolidSnake745 può essere definito un genio di questo settore: è in grado di realizzare cover di canzoni note usando semplicemente i vecchi lettori di floppy disk. Sfrutta infatti il ronzio di queste macchine, associando ad ognuna di esse tracce singole che compongono una canzone, usando 3 o più floppy drive. Esempi come la sigla de Il Trono di Spade o la cover di “Happy” di Pharrell Williams, dimostrano chiaramente la particolarità e la qualità di questo lavoro.

Who has never had a Game Boy or played Super Mario or Tetris? 8-bit Music fully embraces all that nostalgia for those years’ melodies and mixes it with actual songs. In fact, 8-bit Music proposes cover songs in a ‘90s videogames style. From Major to Minor (and vice versa)
What if some memorable sad songs suddenly became merry, and vice versa? That’s what YouTube user Oleg Berg asked himself, and as a result, Oleg uploaded to his channel a series of classic pop songs, modifying their structure. A major scale song is usually characterised by a merry or happy melody, while a minor scale song has a sad and melancholic tone. However, in Berg’s channel it is difficult to recognise songs like “Sweet Dreams” by Eurythmics, in its minor scale reinterpretation, or The Godfather’s soundtrack, which Berg has turned into a merry, delicate melody. On the other hand, even a sweet and romantic (major scale) song like “Love Me Tender”, by Elvis, can become sad and heartbreaking in its minor scale version.
Floppy Music
It is commonly known that using these days’ means one can compose melodies by turning sound and noise into notes. YouTube user MrSolidSnake745 can be defined a genius of the genre: he is able to recreate popular songs just by using old floppy disk players. Actually, he exploits the buzz produced by the players, using 3 or more floppy drives and associating each device to single tracks that compose a song. Some examples, like Game of Thrones’ soundtrack or his cover of “Happy”, by Pharrell Williams, clearly show the particular nature and quality of this work.
